Between the stress of school assignments and adjusting to a new city and culture, midway through the semester is a time when students can hit a wall.
We’ve settled into a routine in our new home and that can contribute to the mid-semester slump. Staying in and watching Netflix is a bad idea every once in a while but it shouldn’t be the only option you look to when you’re stressed.
Florence is full of activities that will help you get past the mid-semester blues.
1. Get Active
The easiest way to relieve stress is by getting active. Florence is a walk-able city so take a walk around a part of a city you haven’t explored yet or go for a jog along the Arno. Meditation is also a way great way to clear your head and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Find a yoga class and take an hour or two to meditate. Exercise releases endorphins which will put you in a better mood and make your time abroad more enjoyable overall.
2. Take a cooking class
What’s a better place to learn about the craft of cooking than in Italy itself? By taking a cooking class not only can you relax but you will leave with a skill you can use at home. Learn how to make classic Italian dishes, such as, eggplant parmesan, Tuscan naked pasta or Tiramisu. Visit the FlorenceForFun office to learn more about how to sign up for classes.
3. Visit a museum
According to UNESCO, one third of the world’s art treasures reside in Florence. This allows art lovers to get a glimpse of art spanning from The Renaissance to the modern day. Between the Uffizi, Galleria dell’Accademia and Pitti Palace there are many options to choose from. Art isn’t the only thing you can see in a museum. Florence is also known for its fashion so be sure to check out the Gucci Museum and the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum as well.
4. Treat yourself
Indulge in gelato for breakfast or buy a new pair of shoes. A little retail therapy is good for the soul once in a while. Think about planning a trip to check off something on your bucket list. With a little planning travel is an affordable option to keep yourself busy.
Writing about your experiences gives you something to look back on when your trip is over and it can help you work through different emotions. Florence is known for its stationary so check out a paper store and buy a handcrafted journal to document your time abroad.
