Museo Galileo owns one of the world’s most exquisite and important collections of scientific instruments and experimental equipment in history. This collection provides an insight into the extraordinary mind and life of Galileo Galilei as well as showing the importance of scientific knowledge during the reign of the Medici and Lorraine. There are over 1,000 instruments from the collections of the Medici and Lorraine, some of which are originals belonging to and used by Galileo himself!
In this museum you will find rooms dedicated to astrology, cartography, measurements of time, the science of warfare, and more. Upon walking in, you will be in complete awe by not only the vast amount of instruments, but the beauty and intricacy of each item. As you make your way towards the end of Museo Galileo, there are various devices modeled after Galileo’s creations available to use and try out. It’s a fun and interactive way to learn about the science behind these creations, putting a smile on everyone’s face as they exit.
