The Galleria of Accademia is home to one of the most iconic sculptures in all of not only Florence, but Europe as a whole: The David. Michelangelo’s David was built to symbolize the strength and independence of the Florentine people.

The Accademia Gallery houses not only the David, but there are also four statues of the Slaves commissioned by pope Julius II, known as “The Prisoners”. Visitors will also be able to see the “Mourning over Jesus Christ” and “St. Matthew”. The museum houses an interesting collection of paintings from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and the early 17th century.

The Gallery also has a room dedicated to antique musical instruments that once belonged to the Medici and Lorraine families. This museum is small enough to easily see everything in max a couple of hours, on average even less. It’s the perfect activity on a rainy day!

Important Information

If you want to buy your tickets in advanced, click here to book online or call +39 055 294 883 to reserve your tickets.

If you reserve tickets over the phone you don’t need to give them payment information. Make sure you have pen and paper to write down your reservation number. Turn up to the museum 15 minutes before your reserved time, and you pay when you enter. Remember, that if you book by phone or online there is a €4 booking fee to pay. Watch out for third party websites that will charge you way more.

Finally, European Union citizens, between the ages of 18 and 26 years old are eligible for a reduced price ticket! Make sure you bring your passport or ID card. For the rest of us, for the moment we can still take advantage of FREE entry on on the first Sunday of the month.
