Emergency Room

The ER that we recommended is called Santa Maria Nuova. You don’t have to call an ambulance because they take walk-ins. However, if you need an ambulance, they are available 24/7. To call an ambulance, the number is 118. Everyone is welcome to use the emergency services, whether you are a study abroad student or a local.

Dr. Stephen Kerr

When you’re feeling sick, that last thing you want to worry about is going to the doctor’s office. Luckily, Dr. Stephen Kerr is known among study abroad students as the go-to physician in Florence. He is an English speaking doctor who had a general practice in Florence since 1998. Although trained in London, he has been looking after tourists and study abroad students for years.  

From feeling sick to needing an X-ray, Dr. Kerr is the person you need to see. Since international prescriptions aren’t accepted in Florence, he can help you with getting a prescription for ailments and contraception. If you’re traveling to other regions of the world and need a specific vaccinations, he can also help with getting your the shots you need.

To make an appointment, just call the office at +39 055 288055 or +39 335 8361682. If you need to go in without an appointment, he has walk-in hours between 3:00pm-5:00pm Monday through Friday. 

Medical Service

Medical Service offers appointments with a variety of English and French speaking doctors. They take appointments but also have set hours for walk-in patients. Walk-in hours are weekdays 11:00am-12:00pm; 1:00pm-3:00pm; and 5:00pm-6:00pm. On weekends, walk-in hours are on Saturdays from 11:00am-12:00pm, and 1:00pm-3:00pm. Servizio di Guardia Medica Turistica

This is a medical service that is provided by the city of Florence for visitors. They have doctors on call that speak English for your connivence. Walk-in hours are weekdays 2:00pm-4:00pm. Located right near the Duomo, it’s a very easily accessible location. They can be reached by phone at +39 055 212221.
