Tramvia Public Transport Florence Guide Campus Florence

Tramvia

The tram is an easy and quick method of transport in Florence. While it does not go through the historic city center, it runs from the Careggi Hospital to Villa Constanza (a common stop for Flixbus) and vice versa. The entire route, end to end, takes approximately 40 minutes. Along the way, the tram will make stops at various places like the Santa Maria Novella train station and Cascine park.

Hours of Operation

From Sunday to Thursday the tram runs from 5:00am-12:30am, whereas on Fridays and Saturdays it will go as late as 2:30am. This is the perfect way to get around for those of you that don’t live right in the heart of Florence. Or alternatively if you’re in the center and want to easily reach the outskirts.

Ticket Prices

Tram tickets are easy to buy and fairly cheap! A single ticket costs €1.50 and is valid for 90 minutes. At each stop there are ticket machines available that accept cash and debit/credit cards. You’re not able to buy tickets on board so it’s important to purchase one beforehand in order to avoid any fines.

Where Else to Buy a Ticket

Tickets are valid on the entire ATAF network — trams and buses. You can change lines as much as you want. The ticket is valid for unlimited travel for 90 minutes.

Tabacconists/Newstands – 90 minutes – €1.50

You can buy single or multi-trip tickets from newstands and tabacconists. They usually won’t take credit/debit cards, just cash.

SMS – 90 minutes €1.80

If you are running late or don’t have cash, you can buy a ticket using your cellphone credit. Send an sms to 4880105 with ATAF as the text and wait for a confirmation message back. You should wait for the confirmation before you get on the tram or bus.

NUGO

Nugo is a new App that you can download to buy your bus and tram tickets, amongst other modes of transport. We haven’t used it yet so we can’t give you a thumbs up or down. Will keep you posted.
