Last Supper Ghirlandaio Ognissanti Church and Convent Florence

Last Supper of Ognissanti

The Cenacolo di Ognissanti is another hidden gem in Florence. The other Florentine Cenacoli were painted by well respected but lesser known (I mean less famous!) artists.

The Last Supper in Ognissanti was painted by Domenico Ghirlandaio in 1480. It is rumored that there were wealthy patrons living in the area that made generous donations to the church and convent. It was these donations that commissioned projects by Giotto, Botticelli and Ghirlandaio.

The Last Supper is appropriately located in the refectory, which can be accessed through the cloister. The cloister is frescoed with Stories of the Life of San Francesco, starting from 1600, by Florentine painters Jacopo Ligozzi and Giovanni da San Giovanni.

In the adjoining church you can admire two other works by Ghirlandaio. Both the San Girolamo (1480) and the Juvenile Madonna of the Misericordia with the Deposition of Christ, were commissioned by the Vespucci family.

Opening Hours:
Monday and Saturday from 9:00am – 1:00pm
*Closed Christmas, New Year’s Day, and August 15th

Price: Free entry!

Campus Florence Tip

As soon as Ghirlandaio finished this amazing artwork, he departed immediately for Rome where he collaborated on the painting of the Sistine Chapel!!
